316 Stainless Steel Nyloc Lock Nuts

Our marine grade passivated 316 stainless steel (A4) nylon insert lock nuts, often call nylocs or stop nuts, are used to secure bolts or other threaded components in place when corrosion resistance and the integrity of the fastener connection are of paramount importance.

These hex nuts have a deforming nylon material inserted inside which will grip on to whatever they are threaded on and create enough friction to prevent loosening due to vibration.

Choose to use a passivated 316 stainless steel nylon insert lock nut instead of a 304 stainless steel, 18-8, or A2 lock nut:

1. Corrosion resistance: passivated 316 stainless steel has a higher resistance to corrosion than 304 stainless steel, making it a good choice for applications where the nut will be exposed to corrosive environments such as for marine uses in salt water or high humidity environments.

2. Strength: 316 stainless steel has a higher strength-to-weight ratio than 304 stainless steel, making it a good choice for applications where the nut will be subjected to high loads or stresses.

3. Temperature resistance: 316 stainless steel has a higher resistance to high temperatures than 304 stainless steel, making it a good choice for applications where the nut will be exposed to high temperatures.

4. Chemical resistance: 316 stainless steel has a higher resistance to certain chemicals than 304 stainless steel, making it a good choice for applications where the nut will be exposed to chemical substances such as in chemical treatment plants.

Stainless steel passivation is a chemical process that improves the corrosion resistance of our 316 stainless fasteners by removing any traces of iron from the surface of fastener. This chemical process enhances it's natural oxide layer, and helps keep any surface rust from forming for years to come.
