Passivated 316 Stainless Steel Machine Screws / Bolts

Most retailers will sell stainless steel machine screws and not name the alloy. "Stainless Steel" encompasses a large variety of alloys, and you'll often find that an inferior, and cheaper to produce "Stainless Steel" is what's sold when the alloy goes unnamed. We only carry Type 316, passivated Stainless Steel Machine Screws, and won't sell you anything less, as it's not what we would use on our boat.

316 (A4) Stainless Steel is far more corrosion resistant than it's 304, A2, or 18-8 Stainless Steel counterparts, and should be your go-to alloy in a marine stainless steel application. The additional nickel and molybdenum in 316 stainless as well as the passivation process adds additional corrosion protection that is necessary in a marine or otherwise corrosive environment.

These flat head 316SS machine screws, or machine bolts come in imperial sizes, have a countersunk (CSK) head, and are available in either phillips or slotted drive. They'll polish up to a mirror finish if desired.

Purchase by the piece, or in large boxes to receive quantity discounts and pricing that will beat any other retailer. Simply enter the quantity you'd like in the "Quantity" box above and your discount will be applied if applicable.

What is stainless steel passivation and how does it help keep our stainless marine fasteners corrosion free?

Stainless steel passivation is a chemical process that improves the corrosion resistance of our 316 stainless fasteners by removing any traces of iron from the surface of fastener. This chemical process enhances it's natural oxide layer, and helps keep any surface rust from forming for years to come.

Fantastic service

Been replacing all the fasteners on my Cape Dory Typhoon restoration. Fair Wind has been my source and everything I have ordered has arrived fast and is quality marine grade.

Fair Winds Fasteners has my confidence

I would typically buy my fasteners at my local Ace Hardware, but when it comes to fasteners on my sailboat I prefer to know that the materials and manufacturing methods have been selected specifically for marine use. When I found that Fair Wind Fasteners offered cotter pins in 316 stainless and that they understood how important alloy formulation is for marine use I searched their site to compare prices and availability for all the cotter pins that I would get in a kit from one of my trusted marine fastener suppliers. It turned out that Fair Wind's prices were about the same after shipping and the alloy was better (316 vs. 18-8). So, I went to the extra effort to put together my own kit, and while I was at it I ordered replacement fasteners for my salon table repair project. The prices were good. Packing my order happened quickly. Delivery was fast and drama-free. The fasteners appear to be very well made with excellent grip in the Phillips screw heads and no defects or blemishes in any of the fasteners I've found so far and good size repeatability. I did find an error in my order of probably 20 different screws, nuts, washers, and clevis pins. When I sent an email reply to Rob he responded quickly and sent me more than what I had ordered quickly and again with no drama. I'm super pleased with Fair Wind Fasteners and I'm glad to be using them to hold my vessel together when I'm underway.
