These Copper Burrs pair well with our smooth shank, copper common nails. Commonly used in lapstrake boatbuilding, these burrs will fit over a copper nail and then the tip of the nail is blunted over to create a copper rivet.

The gauge number on the burr is meant to correspond to the size nail that it is meant to be used with. However, many customers prefer either a tighter or looser fit, so in-between sizing is available and can be chosen with the drop-down box above. The handy measurement guide below will help determine which size burr you require. You can cross-reference it with the similar guide on the copper nail page.

Burr Size Inner Diameter (ID) Outer Diameter (OD)
#6 0.205" 0.470"
#8 0.165" 0.470"
#9 0.145" 0.438"
#10 0.135" 0.378"
#12 0.124" 0.361"
#13 0.105" 0.333"
#14 0.090" 0.314"

Delivery Of exactly what's needed

I'm a retired boat builder/ship carpenter. I'm not doing production work but I still make and repair boats. This is a fantastic resource. I find and get what I'm looking for delivered right away. If I could give. 7 stars I would.

Copper nails, and burrs

I have not used them yet. I ordered the wrong length on the nails, i need 3 1/2" not 3".
For my project I need to secure 3 pieces of wood together. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Good stuff, fair price

I do some work on wooden boats - bronze and copper fastenings are often required. They are not cheap, nor should they be. But when I saw Fair Winds prices for SB wood screws and tried them out, I switched suppliers immediately. I've seen no difference in quality from fasteners for which I had been paying 1 1/2 to 2 times the price to the competition. A no-brainer. (Service is quick, too.)

Great product

Great burrs, tight fit on the nails.

They seem to work

I’m totally new to copper rivets. I got the #12 nails and #14 burrs. Seemed like it would be too tight but it worked. I haven’t tried it on my project yet, but I’m sure it will work as intended.
